    Transportation:
    Shinshu-Matsumoto Airport is the closest airport to Nagano. JR trains connect Nagano and other cities to Tokyo, Nagoya, Niigata and Kanazawa. Local buses or hiring a car are popular options.

    Best time to visit:
    The busiest times to visit: Cherry Blossom, Golden week (Japanese holiday in the beginning of May), Obon (Japanese national holiday in mid-August), Momiji season (when the leaves start changing colours). During these days, the streets will be overcrowded and the hotels fully-booked. Summers are hot but it gets cooler in the evenings, which makes it perfect for hiking. Winters are cold, with lots of snow, this adding up to the beauty of the city.
