Start your trip with a couple of nights in Nagoya, and visit Tobe and Ise for great scenic locations and famous Mikimoto Pearl Island, before heading to Hakone, famous for it’s great views of Mt. Fuji, stunning nature and renowned hot springs.

In Hakone, stay at a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) with a private open-air hot spring bath in your room and delicious local cuisine served for your dinner.

Continue your trip to Tokyo where you can go to the observation platform at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building for great views of the city, Akihabara for its numerous electronic shops, Shibuya for the latest fashion trends and famous crossing, Asakusa with its beautiful Sensoji temple and busy Nakamise shopping street with its numerous souvenir and crafts shops. These are must see attractions - and they even are all free.

Travel to Yudanaka Onsen, the only place in the world where you can observe Japanese macaque bathing in open-air hot springs. Spend the night here in Yudanaka at a ryokan with hot springs.

Finish your trip with an evening in Nagoya, a great chance to try local delicatessen - grilled eel dishes and deep-fried pork cutlets served with miso sauce.

Make your own way to your hotel by train and subway (journey time about 45 minutes, payable locally). Free time in Nagoya. We recommend that you visit Nagoya Castle, Nagoya TV Tower for a beautiful panoramic view, Tokugawa Art Museum for great collections of written documents of ancient emperors, suits of armour, helmets, swords, writings and paintings of distinguished persons and Atsuta Shrine.

Day 2Free time in Nagoya. Today you can use the Japan Rail Pass provided to visit Mikimoto Pearl Island, famous for the pearl museum and demonstrations of gathering pearls by women divers and Isejingu Shrine.

Day 3Use your JR Pass to travel to Hakone, famous for its magnificent nature, stunning views of Mt. Fuji and numerous hot springs. Make the most of your Hakone Free Pass that gives you unlimited rides on all public transport in Hakone, including trains, buses, cruise ships as well discounted admission to various attractions. Stay in a ryokan to experience Japanese hospitality, traditional cuisine, futon bedding and onsen (hot spring) bathing.

Day 4Use your Hakone Free Pass and JR Pass to travel to Tokyo. We recommend that you visit Imperial Palace East Garden, Ginza Shopping District, Asakusa Kannon Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street as well observation platform at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (free entry) to enjoy the view of Tokyo.

Day 5Free time in Tokyo. Today you can use your JR Pass to visit Kamakura - an ancient town near Tokyo surrounded by wooded mountains on three sides and Sagami Bay on the south, with many renowned temples and shrines as well as well-preserved historical treasures. Must-see sights are Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, The Great Buddha and Hasedera Temple.

Day 6Use your JR Pass to visit National Park Nikko, famous for its temples and shrines, green mountains and one the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan - Kegon.

Day 7Use your JR Pass to take a direct train to Nagano. A 10-minute bus ride from the station lies Zenkoji temple, revered for over 1400 years as Japan’s primary center of Buddhist faith. Zenkoji houses the first Buddhist statue to come to Japan and is a masterpiece of Buddhist architecture. For lunch you might want to try Soba noodles made from local buckwheat. Return to the station, board a Dentetsu train to Yudanaka (payable locally, approx. ¥1130). There you can visit Jigokudani Yaenkoen (Wild Monkey Park), to observe the famous Snow Monkeys (Japanese Macaque). From late April through June you can see many newborn babies, and in winter they can be seen bathing in the hot springs to keep warm - this area is buried in snow almost one third of the year. Stay in a ryokan with hot springs and enjoy a multicourse dinner there.

Day 8Use your JR Pass to take a direct train to Nagoya. Free afternoon in Nagoya. You can head downtown to Sakae district, the centre of Nagoya’s shopping and nightlife. The Nadya Park complex is worth a visit for its Design Museum, and it would be a great place to buy your souvenirs as it hosts lifestyle department store LOFT and several specialty stores.
