Nestled in the mountains of the Hida region, Takayama has a beautifully preserved old town that helps it retain a traditional feeling that rivals Kyoto and Kanazawa. It also has close links to the hot springs in Gero and the traditional farmhouses in Shirakawa-go. Shirakawago is a picturesque village with Gassho-zukuri houses that are 250 years old, and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tour includes bus tickets from Takayama to Shirakawa-go, and to Kanazawa (you also can choose to return to Takayama) and stay overnight in a thatched-roof Gassho-style inn, with dinner and breakfast.
